Introduction

Would you like to get a break from the constant political correctness, social accusations and feminist hostility? Could you use a bit of help or moral support? Welcome to A Refuge for MRAs and Expatriates. Of course, if you are an expatriate, you have already found your refuge from the hell of an unhappy marriage, man-bashing at work or at school and the threat of anti-male legal, social and employment discrimination. Congratulations to you. Read ahead and check out the male-positive book and movie lists.

If you are still languishing in feminist land, consider this site a safe place without the feminist denigration and attacks. You will find information on men’s issues, links to helpful sites, a get-out-of-town expatriate blog, relevant YouTube videos, a male-positive book list, a male-positive movie list and no negative, feminist comments.

There is information about feminism here, but no debate with feminists and, therefore, no shaming or silencing of men. This site is about men’s issues, not feminist ranting. There is no censorship here of men’s ideas and perspectives, no judgment. As you read, click the highlighted text for links to more information, including articles.

So, relax. Here at A Refuge for MRAs and Expatriates, you can ask anything and say what you please about men’s rights, feminist oppression or anything else, in the way you want to say it. Does that sound like there are no rules or restrictions? That’s damn near it. For now, I’ll only ask two things.

First, remember whose side we are all on. Men may come in here and cuss and rant in MRA articles or blogs, calling women bitches and whores or whatnot. Cut them some slack. Think about how feminists refer to us. Remember where you are coming from, and consider where they are coming from. The President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, said during his inaugural speech (1 December 2012): “Detrás de cada delito hay una historia del dolor” [Behind every crime, there is a story of pain]. We men are here because we have all been abused by feminists to a greater or lesser extent. Most of the men who come to this site may be angry, withdrawn, alcoholic or depressed, the human side behind the term “men´s issues.”

These men have been divorced, betrayed, insulted, arrested, battered and cheated. Many men may be on the street, or nearly so, because of unfair divorce settlements, outrageous alimony or child support payments, false rape or paternity suits or other anti-male court cases. Remember that a lot of men in the United States have lost their homes, their cars, a significant part of their salaries and their children to feminist aggression. In her article in The Tampa Tribune (2 November 2005, Pg. 10), the noted columnist Kathleen Parker says: “The eradication of men and fathers from children’s lives has been feminism’s most despicable accomplishment.”

Those are some of the men’s issues we are here to discuss. Consider, for a moment, the following quote from the article “Male Suicide Rates and Causes” by Szebran and posted on The Spearhead 19 April 2011:

“Based on studies by Professor John Macdonald, Co director of the Men’s Health Information and Resource Centre (MHIRC) in Australia and Thomas Joiner, Ph.D, a professor of psychology at Florida State University, it appears the two primary reasons causing the vast majority of male suicides are modern marriage (sometimes called marriage 2.0 on The Spearhead) and unemployment.”

This Spearhead quote is supported by statistics that show that male rates of suicide are higher than female rates in all countries, and the rates for males are rising. The World Health Organization (listed on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and updated 2011) cites the following numbers of suicides per 100,000 people per year.

Don’t attack your MRA brothers, already downsliding from anger and depression, for badmouthing the enemy. That’s just another form of censorship and needless aggression. It’s like kicking a man when he’s down. What did your father tell you about that?

At the same time, however, we do not have to stoop to the feminists’ style of anti-male prejudice. Remember your history. Not all German Nazis were anti-Semites. Oskar Schindler (1908-1974) and other Germans helped many Jews escape the Holocaust. Not all Southerners were slaveholders. Levi Coffin (1798-1877), a Quaker, and other southern whites helped many escaped slaves reach the freedom of Canada. In the same sense, not all women are feminists set on destroying men’s rights, not even all United States women. There have been several great, nonfiction books written on the subject of men’s issues by MRAs. Some have been written, to my astonishment, by United States women. The following two are worth a read. I admire the courage and scholarship of the authors, and I appreciate their fair-minded support of men’s issues. It seems that any woman who has written a whole book, not to mention a series of books, in support of men’s rights, for men and boys, has proven herself.

The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men by Dr. Christina Hoff Sommers, resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington. D.C. This book should be considered required reading, especially for young men or any man with school-age sons. It serves well as a companion piece to the cornerstone book by Warren Farrell, Ph.D. The Myth of Male Power

You may also refer to: www.ladiesagainstfeminism.com, the anti-feminist Eagle Forum started by Phyllis Schlafly in 1972, or, better yet, you can take a vacation in Latin America or Asia, where women still respect and value men.

If supportive, fair-minded ladies come to the site, welcome them; I am sure that they will be few in number. I well remember, and many of you may know what it is like to support the women’s rights movement and get kicked in the nuts (figuratively or literally) for your honest efforts. Let’s appreciate any women who show genuine concern for MRAs or men’s issues. They are on our side, but let’s be clear about who those good women are. They are the supportive women who accept men and love men for who we are. They are not the power hungry, domineering types who want us on our knees, constantly apologizing for real or imagined insults or mistakes to win their approval. They are not the ones who consider us flawed and demand that we change to suit them. They are not the ones who use and abuse men as house slaves to demonstrate their empowerment. Remember the words of Malcolm X (1925-1965): “We are a peaceful people, a loving people. We love anyone who loves us. But we don’t love anyone who does not love us.” The idea here is to present a united front. “We must all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately.” Benjamin Franklin, 1776.

I have seen MRA blogs that forbid “ranting” against women, blogs that say women are not welcome, and I have seen criticism of the “approach” of AngryHarry’s site. Likewise, many liberals criticized Malcolm X during the Civil Rights Movement because of his approach, and Malcolm himself initially wanted no help from sympathetic whites. I say we need every voice concerned about and supportive of men’s issues–enraged, moderate, editorial, male, female–and we need websites like AngryHarry, The Spearhead, Return of Kings, A Voice for Men, MRA London, Antimisandry.com  and menweb.org (among other fine sites) together at the helm. Here at A Refuge for MRAs and Expatriates, men can rant, and antifeminist women are welcome to join in. Feminists and those silly manginas and white knights are the ones who are not welcome. They have ranted enough to institutionalize and legalize man-bashing in the United States, and, although I supported their cause in the past, I am no longer interested in anything more they have to say.

My second request relates to my profession: the teaching and writing of English. As mentioned, you can say what you want, in whatever manner you want to say it. However, you can take at least a few minutes to proofread your submittals, be they blogs, editorials or articles. Most of the blogs I have read are fairly well written; however, cussing and ranting looks bad with shoddy grammar, a loss of focus, TEXT IN ALL CAPS or way too much BOLDFACE or with a lot of needless question marks or exclamation points!!!!! Despite the hyper-critical nature of our society, the idea at A Refuge for MRAs and Expatriates is intended to present a positive, welcoming attitude and men’s rights forum for men and fair-minded, female allies. Does that sound good? Okay, now we’re rockin’.
